Blind dates carry their share of risks so it is always important to be on your guard and to be as safe as possible. Blind dates are stressful enough without the added worry about your safety. Be smart and be careful. Not everyone is who they claim to be and many predators troll the Internet looking for innocent victims for everything from cons to . While there are many wolves in sheeps clothing there are also some good people out there who are well meaning and honest about wanting to meet decent like minded individuals. Do not get caught in a spider web of problems on a blind date by being as safe as you possibly can be.
Although a blind date is a date it is never wise to give the other person your address or let them pick you up at your place of residence. To be on the safe side you might want to only give out your cell phone number as opposed to your home number until you have decided that this is a person you wish to get to know better. Choose a date, a place and a time and then agree to meet each other there but arrive separately and leave separately. It is best to choose a location that is convenient for you both and is somewhere in the middle between your home and the other persons.
It is best to meet the other person in a busy place where there are plenty of people around such as a coffee shop or restaurant but dont go somewhere that you will have to scream to be heard. There is security in numbers after all and if the person is not what you expected or you do not feel comfortable around him or her then extricating yourself from the situation will be easier with other people around. Choose a neutral location that is not a local hang out for either one of you. Even if the date goes well you should not leave with the other person.
Do not let the other person give you a ride home and do not bring them to your home. You do not want to get paranoid but you do want to play it safe and it is important to bear in mind that not everyone is what he or she seems to be. This person might very well be a decent person but you need to reserve judgment until you get to know him or her better.
It is fine to talk about yourself but also listen to what the other person has to say and do not get carried away and reveal too many intimate details about yourself. Dating and getting to know another person is an unveiling of sorts and can be compared to the action of peeling an onion and revealing layer after layer. Take your time and proceed with caution. Chances are the person you go out on the blind date with is a perfectly fine individual but for your own peace of mind, you need to observe caution no matter what. *
